What is .locker?

.locker is a two-part solution that comprises of a Web2 domain name along with a corresponding Web3 digital identity. For example, the john.locker domain name would have a corresponding john.locker digital identity. Together, the domain name and corresponding digital identity form a unified identity that works across the internet.

Why .locker?

We believe that your identity should work across the internet without borders. .locker fulfills that belief by being a fully accredited ICANN domain name that works on DNS, while also working onchain as a digital identity. In simple terms, this means that you can use .locker for a website, an email address, digital payments, login credentials, and more. That’s one name for everything you do online, without sacrificing utility in either ecosystem.

What is the difference between a domain name and a digital identity?

A domain name is a human-readable address (like example.com) that points to a location on the internet, usually tied to a website, email service, or server. It's fundamentally about discoverability: it tells people and systems where to go for certain information.

A digital identity is much broader. It's the full set of attributes, credentials, and data that represent who or what someone is online. This includes verified claims, digital wallets, reputation history, authentication methods, social profiles, credentials, and so on. It's about who you are, not just where you are. On Web3, a digital identity is tied to a digital wallet, which is where all of the above data is securely stored.

What do we mean by Web2 and Web3?

Web2 refers to the current state of the internet, characterized by user-generated content, social media, and centralized platforms. Users are consumers of content and services provided by centralized platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google, and Amazon.

Web3 is an evolving concept that envisions a decentralized internet where users have more control over their data and interactions. It aims to empower users with tools and technologies that enable peer-to-peer transactions, decentralized applications (dApps), and blockchain-based systems.

Today, Web2 and Web3 operate in parallel to each other. Information on Web2 isn’t automatically accessible in Web3, and vice versa. They are fundamentally different networks despite both being grouped under “the internet.”

What can I do with .locker?

One .locker name can:

What are the main uses for my .locker digital identity?

Since it’s connected to a digital wallet, you can use your .locker to conduct blockchain transactions and connect to EVM-compatible applications. Every action you complete on Ethereum is called a transaction. You can:

• Send and receive digital payments, like ETH, BTC, or USDT
• Login to applications
• Create an onchain profile for verification and authentication
• Build an AI agent that’s anchored on DNS for authenticity
• Play blockchain-based games

What is a digital wallet?

A digital wallet is software (sometimes paired with hardware) that stores and manages the credentials needed to hold, send, and receive digital assets, such as cryptocurrency, tokens, NFTs.

At its core, a digital wallet doesn't actually "store" your coins the way a physical wallet stores cash. What it really holds are your private keys, or the cryptographic proof that you control specific assets recorded on a blockchain. The digital wallet uses those keys to sign transactions, proving you're authorized to move the funds.

How is .locker integrated with Ethereum?

As of September 1, 2026, .locker digital identities will be minted as NFTs on Ethereum using Ethereum Name Service (ENS). This means that .locker is compatible with EVM applications and digital wallets that use ENS.

How do I manage my .locker domain name and digital identity?

Manage your .locker domain name with your domain registrar. With your domain registrar, you can manage your DNS records, create a website, set up email, and more.

Manage your .locker digital identity in the .locker application. After domain registration, you will receive an email from .locker with instructions on how to claim your digital identity. This includes access to the .locker app, where you can connect other digital wallet addresses, see transactions, and manage your primary name. You can also manage your .locker digital identity with the ENS app, which allows you to create an ENS profile for digital identity verification.
